The wait is over India cleared two vaccines for use to fight the ongoing pandemic. In this year of science, Indian scientists delivered at least 30 candidate vaccines against Covid-19. There is so much hype but not many understand that there is deep science and ethics behind clinical trials. From the identification of a new vaccine to its pre-clinical or animal testing and then regulatory approvals there is a huge process behind each trial. What are Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4 in clinical trials how is it established that new product is safe and efficacious. We meet Dr Sanjay K. Rai, the Principal Investigator at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi who spearheaded one arm of the Covaxin trial.
