India Fights COVID-19: Treatment (E)

A unique and rare bedside interview from inside a COVID ward with India’s top physician Dr Rajesh Malhotra, Head of the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre which is a part of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. He routinely dawns a PPE kit and treats patients infected with SARS COV 2 virus or the novel corona virus. AIIMS alone has treated nearly 20,000 patients. India is battling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this surge, the virus seems to have become more transmissible and is affecting a very large number of people. This one of a kind bed-side interview from inside the covid ward of the AIIMS, New Delhi was possible only because the host of the show turned positive and was admitted for treatment. In a Covid ward the health care workers are in PPE kits and patients in normal attire, so please do not be surprised. Dr Malhotra explains what is the correct treatment protocol, the use of oxygen, when to use steroids and should one get Remdesivir at all. Is plasma therapy useful? Dr Malhotra also explains how difficult it is for his team to work for long periods in COVID wards.
