Landsat 9 (E)

On September the 27th , NASA and the US Geological Survey launched Landsat 9 as part of their Earth observation satellite series. At 11:12 a.m. local time, the Atlas V 401 rocket took off with Landsat 9 from the space station at California, and successfully placed it in a sun-synchronous orbit. This is the eighth Landsat satellite put into orbit by NASA since 1972. This joint effort by NASA and the US Geological Survey has provided an unprecedented and nearly continuous visual record of Earth’s landscape, ice cover, and coastal waters.
