Dr. Renu Swarup (DBT) - India's Scientific Glory (E)

Department of Biotechnology (DBT), which comes under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is responsible for administrating development and commercialisation in the field of modern biology and biotechnology in India. Set up in the year 1986, the department is working in the area of health care, food and agriculture, energy and environmental security. In this show, we meet Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, DBT and Chairperson, Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). A PhD in Genetics and Plant Breeding, Dr Swarup was actively engaged in the formulation of the Biotechnology Vision in 2001, National Biotechnology Development Strategy in 2007 and Strategy II, 2015-20 as the Member Secretary of the Expert Committee. Dr. Renu Swarup was responsible for getting implemented the DBT Scheme on Biotechnology Career Advancement for Women Scientists – Bio CARE. She has been the recipient of many honours including the She was awarded the “BioSpectrum Person of the Year Award 2012”. And the “National Entrepreneurship Awards 2017”.
