Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra (ICAR) - India's Scientific Glory (E)

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an autonomous body responsible for co-ordinating agricultural education and research in India. It is the largest network of agricultural research and education institutes in the world. In this show, we meet Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General of ICAR, who talks about ICAR's contribution in India's agricultural development and how science and technology helps in the advancement. Dr Mohapatra is a distinguished scientist and the recipient of many awards including the INSA Young Scientist Award. He developed the first high yielding Basmati rice variety resistant to bacterial leaf blight through molecular marker assisted selection, and has also accomplished the physical mapping and genome sequencing of rice and tomato.
