The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), known for its cutting edge R&D knowledgebase in diverse S&T areas, is a contemporary R&D organization. Having a pan-India presence, it provides significant technological intervention in many areas with regard to societal efforts which include environment, health, drinking water, food, housing, energy, farm and non-farm sectors. In this show, we meet Dr Shekhar C. Mande, Director-General of CSIR and Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. One of India’s leading experts in DNA fingerprinting and diagnostics, he is the recipient of many prestigious awards like the Bharat Asmita Tantravigyan Puraskar and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize. He specializes in structural and computational biology including proteins structure and function, applications of Graph Theory to large scale protein interaction networks and Biology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In this show, he talks about how CSIR has been playing a pivotal role in the development of India’s science and technology, including the research around the COVID-19 pandemic.
