India has come a long way from importing its defence requirements to developing them indigenously. Defence Research and Development Organisation or DRDO is playing an important role in making India self-reliant in defence technologies. Set up in year 1958, DRDO has a network of 52 laboratories which are working in various areas such as aeronautics, armaments, electronics, land combat engineering, life sciences, materials, missiles, and naval systems from the defence point of view. Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy, an Indian Aerospace Scientist is the current Chairman of DRDO and Secretary, Department of Defence R&D. He is well known for his significant contributions towards indigenous design, development, deployment of diversified Missiles & Strategic Systems, Guided Weapons, Avionics technologies and for sustained efforts in advancement of Aerospace technologies & Industries in India.
