Fasting Can Help Keep-Off Food Borne Infections (E)

According to a study conducted by the University of British Columbia, Canada, fasting can help keep-off food borne infections like Salmonella. The study has recently been published in the research journal PLOS Pathogens. People or animals often lose their appetite when infected with Salmonella. The researchers studied mice before and after being infected with this bacteria. It was found that the mice that were made to fast for 48 hours had fewer symptoms of bacterial infection than the well-fed mice. Fasting was also found to eliminate almost all intestinal tissue damage and inflammation.
