Mental Health: Student Special (E)

10th October is observed as the World Mental Health Day by over 150 nations worldwide. In 2019 the theme of this day was ‘suicide prevention’. Every hour one student commits suicide in India. To understand why this is happening and how can we help, this show is dedicated to mental health issues among students. In this programme, meet a doctor who completed his MBBS in 12 years as he suffered from bipolar disorder which severely affected his studies. His story highlights the pressure of studies on students, need for the treatment of mental health problems and the self-stigma that the patient faces. Through a discussion with Dr Harshita Prabhakar, a child psychologist and Dr Pratap Sharan, a psychiatrist, this show brings the symptoms, causes, impacts, social stigma, substance use disorder, types of mental illnesses and their data to light.
