Sunscreens and Ultraviolet Radiation (E)

An international study conducted in collaboration with scientists at the Oregon State University has found that sunscreens containing zinc oxide lose their effectiveness and become toxic two hours after exposure to ultraviolet radiation of the sun. Sunscreens are generally believed to protect against UV radiation from the sun, but it was not known that some of the components used in them can be toxic when exposed to the UV rays. Inorganic compounds such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are major components in many sunscreens.
