Vegetable cultivation is not easy, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has developed over 1500 high yielding varieties of vegetables and today modern biotechnology and plant breeding is giving huge dividends. The field station of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute at Katrain in Kullu district is located amidst a picturesque setting and the station is responsible for most of the cauliflower, cabbage, carrot, capsicum. They use cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS) to develop hybrid seeds of vegetables that find place in all colder regions.
