Today time has become a commodity; it is being sold and bought so how does one accurately measure time? A look at an ancient way of measuring time using a Sun dial and the most modern way of keeping time using atomic clocks. In this episode, Meet Dr Dinesh Aswal, India’s timekeeper and Director of the National Physical Laboratory in New Delhi and take an inside look into India’s secure time laboratory. Dr Aswal details how in the digital era time stamping is very important for e-commerce and for cybersecurity and says that India ranks in the top five countries for the precision of measurement of time. Is the lunar calendar or the Gregorian calendar a better way to measure time and should India have more two time zones. One nation one time, but two time zones may save money for India. He also reveals among the first clocks to be found were those in the Indus Valley excavations and says the water dripping on Shiv Lingam was in fact a way of keeping track of time.
