Solar Proton (E)

The Chandrayaan-2 orbiter is working to its full potential. ISRO has said that the Pay-load Large Area Soft X-ray Spectrometer (CLASS), a payload on-board the Orbiter has recently detected solar proton events that increase radiation exposure to humans in space. When the Sun is active, solar flares occur that sometimes send out highly energetic particles that reach the interplanetary space. These solar protons, classified in different intensities, affect the space systems and significantly increase radiation exposure to humans in space. The Chandrayaan-2 payload CLASS has recorded solar proton events caused by two such M-class flares on January 20th.
