The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is an autonomous institution through an Act of Parliament, serves as a nucleus for nurturing excellence in all aspect of health care and has comprehensive facilities for teaching as well as research. In this show we meet Prof. Randeep Guleria, the Director of AIIMS. Prof. Guleria is the first Indian to get a Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. The Department of Pulmonary Medicine & Sleep Disorders at AIIMS has been created under his dynamic leadership in 2011. An eminent doctor, he has also been the personal physician to the former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Dr. Guleria is the recipient of many awards including the prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2015 and the Dr. B.C. Roy Award in the category ‘Eminent Medical Person’ for the year 2014. In this show he discusses the COVID-19 pandemic and the journey of research and development around it.
