Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology (E)

Renowned immunologist Dr. Rajesh S. Gokhale is now the new Secretary of the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India. He succeeds Dr. Renu Swarup, who retired on the 31 st of October. At the time of appointment, he was serving as a professor of Biology at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune. Dr. Gokhale is known for his large-scale work on tuberculosis and the development of long-chain fatty acyl-AMP ligases. Dr Rajesh Gokhale joined the National Institute of Immunology in 1999 and was the Director of CSIR’s Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology from 2009 to 2016.
