In this episode, we will explore a range of structures built from stone across different periods of Indian history. We start off with the techniques that powered rock cut Buddhist caves – like the stone cliffs of Ellora. We explore the monolithic Kailashnath temple in this complex. We explore the stone temples at Konarak and finally end up at the marble Taj Mahal. We focus on the knowledge and science that powered Indian artisans to work with a range of stone materials like granite, marble, sandstone, limestone, slate etc. as well as architectural techniques - like the way the Kailashnath temple was built from top-down.
