India’s 41st Scientist Expedition to Antarctica (E)

India has successfully launched its 41st Scientific Expedition to Antarctica. The first batch of 23 scientists and support staff reached the Indian Antarctic Station, Maitri last week. Four more batches will land in Antarctica by mid- January 2022 by air using the DROMLAN facility and the chartered ice-class vessel MV Vasily-Golovnin. The two major programmes of the 41st Expedition include geological exploration of the Amery Ice Shelf at Bharati station and reconnaissance surveys and preparatory work for drilling of 500m ice core near Maitri.
