Touch Wood - Building Blocks of Bharat Series (E)

Our next episode takes us on an exploration of wooden structures. Prior to the fourth century BCE, most construction activities in India were done using wood, though there are very few surviving proofs of these. We will explore the wooden architecture of Kerala, with a special focus on the Padmanabhapuram temple, the wooden havelis of Gujarat in the town of Vaso in Kheda, as well as the wooden structures in Himachal. The style of building here is called Kath-khuni architecture and combines wood and stone. We will explore the art of indigenous building techniques and craftsmanship in wood in each region.
