The cultivation of aroma crops is so fast that the requirement of essential oils of the countries industries will be fulfilled very soon by the aromatic plants in our cultivated. Due to the scientific intervention of CSIR-CIMAP India has become the largest producer and exporter of natural menthol. Another CSIR institute, IIIM Jammu has initiated steps to promote lavender cultivation in Jammu. Similar efforts have also been taken up by CSIR-IHBT Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. The institute has developed mobile distillation units for the isolation of essential oils in the farmer’s field without the need for middlemen.
