DST-INST (E)

Institute of Nano Science & Technology (INST) started its activities on 3rd January 2013 under the guidance of Founding Director Prof. Ashok K. Ganguli. To boost research and development in the field of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology in India, the Institute of Nano Science and Technology or INST, an autonomous institution of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has been established, under the umbrella of NANO MISSION at Mohali, Punjab. INST is the first and only institute funded by Government of India, with a vison of pursuing cutting-edge research in nanoscience and technology in the field of healthcare, agriculture, medicine, energy and environment. INST encourages all aspects of research in nanoscience and nanotechnology with major thrust in the areas of health care, agriculture, medical environment and energy with the ultimate goal to make a difference to society through nanoscience and technology. INST cultivates cutting-edge research in nanoscience and nanotechnonology with an interdisciplinary flavour. To this notion, the institute brings together biologists, chemists, physicists, and engineers under the same umbrella to pursue their interest in nanoscience and technology.Through its various activities, INST is committed to contribute significantly to the National Societal Programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swasth Bharat, Smart Cities, Smart Villages, supporting the Strategic Sector, Make in India and Clean & Renewable Energy through scientific means and by generating processes, technologies and devices. The faculties of the institute have made significant scientific contributions of high international standards with a total of 300 publications so far. INST being a relatively smaller institute comprising of only 36 faculty members, the publications per faculty is increasing progressively.INST is promoting science amongst the young generation, through its outreach program for rural, remote and under-served schools through the Chatra Protsahan Vyakhyan Shrankhla programs, in order to motivate the students to explore the world of science. The institute offers summer internship to students belonging to marginalised section of the society, as an excellent opportunity to participate in the cutting-edge research and several developmental projects under the guidance of INST faculty. The Institute of Nano Science and Technology is on a journey to enhance research activities in the field of Nano Science and Nano Technology, to explore innovative and technology based scientific projects with a special thrust to apply science for the benefit of the society.Although there are many challenges ahead but the era of nanotechnology has already begun. With its increasing aplication in every sector, the time is not far when we will soon be witnessing science fictions turning into a reality.
