20 Million Year Old Palm Fossil (E)
Geologist Dr. Ritesh Arya has discovered a rare 20-million year old palm fossil in Ladakh. The four feet long fossil found among the weak rocks of the region represents the palm tree which isn’t found anywhere in the Himalayas. This discovery reinforces the theory that the Himalayan peaks originated from the Tethys Ocean. According to geological history, Tethys ocean separated India from Tibet till 20 million years ago.
