Steel: Empowering Infrastructure in India (E)

In this exclusive episode of Science for a Self Reliant India we look at how 1600 years after its first use, modern India is working to augment its steel production and thereby accelerate its economic expansion - our country is already the 2nd highest producer of steel and now a net exporter of finished steel products. In this two-episode series, our team travels to the Bokaro Steel Plant which started production in 1973 in the state of Jharkhand and see first-hand how the iron ore is converted to steel and its many byproducts. Bokaro’s modernization is underway to increase the liquid steel production capacity of the plant, along with fresh rolling and coating facilities.
