Statistical Method For Rock Formations (E)

Researchers at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, have developed a statistical method that enables the estimation of rock formations below the earth’s surface as well as the detection of petroleum and hydrocarbon reserves. The method has been found to be effective in providing important information on the distribution of hydrocarbon zones in the Tipum Formation located in the Upper Assam Basin. This method has enabled the researchers to obtain accurate information regarding the distribution of rocks and hydrocarbon saturation zones in areas up to 2.3 kms depth.
