Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya ? Does the name ring a bell ? Well, who was he? Sir MV, as he is popularly called, was a notable civil engineer, an expert in irrigation design, reservoirs, dams, drinking water supply and drainage schemes. He was also a legendary nation builder, and a staunch votary of technical education and industrialization. This video biography titled “Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya: The Grand Visionary” is about the engineering contribution of Sir M Visvesvaraya, especially in the building of the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) Dam across the river Cauvery in Karnataka and turning around the fortunes of Mysore Iron Works and the Kolar Gold Fields in Pre-independent India. The technique of construction of KRS dam without using cement and smelting iron ore without the use of coal for producing pig iron at Mysore Iron & Steel Works are specially recommended for audience’s attention.
