Sequenced the DNA of a 1,600-year-old sheep mummy (E)

A team of geneticists and archaeologists from Ireland, France, Iran, Germany and Austria has sequenced the DNA of a 1,600-year-old sheep mummy from an ancient Iranian salt mine, Chehrabad. This breakthrough has revealed ancient sheep husbandry practices in the region, besides underlining how natural mummification can influence DNA degradation. The findings of this remarkable discovery have recently been published in the international research journal Biology Letters.
