National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) was founded in the year 1930, with the objectives to provide a national forum for the publication of research work carried out by Indian scientists and to provide opportunities for exchange of views among them. Further, the large base of its esteemed Fellows & Members made the Academy capable of generating ideas/views etc. on several important socio-scientific issues; and the Academy’s role was recognized as a ‘Think Tank’ by many, including the government after independence. The Academy, with the broad base of more than 3500 Fellows and Members from all the areas of Science & Society, has always acted as ‘think tank’ to provide solutions to the socio-scientific problems
