Promo: Life in Science with Pallava Bagla-Inside India’s COVID-19 Biobank (E)

Most people are scared of handling even a single corona positive sample but at Translational Health Science Technology Institute's (THSTI) housed biobank they have stored over 5000 plus Covid-19 positive samples. This is all in an effort to better understand the Covid-19 disease. For collecting samples at biobank, volunteers are recruited after taking informed consent and the biological samples from these infected patients along with relevant clinical data are stored in a massive repository. These samples are stored at minus eighty degrees Celsius in highly specialised refrigerators. These samples help the industry in developing diagnostic kits, do specialised bio-assays, and help in analysing vaccine effectiveness over a diverse variety of Covid-19 vaccines. Dr Shinjini Bhatnagar a paediatrician by training turned researcher and her team have been studying these bio-samples and storing them. This long term storage and longitudinal study will help get a better grip on this new infection of the SARS- CoV-2 virus. "
