New Tests To Identify Omicron Virus (E)
Indian researchers have developed two new tests to identify the new variant of the corona virus, Omicron. The identification of the new variant is a necessary step in preventing its spread, along with other measures like masking and social distancing and travel restrictions. As part of these efforts, two new test kits have been developed by the scientists of ICMR’s Regional Medical Research Center, Dibrugarh, and the Kusuma School of Biological Sciences, IIT, Delhi. The test kit developed by ICMR is based on hydrolysis test-based real-time RT-PCR, which is capable of detecting Omicron, in just two hours.
