New Compound Developed To Treat Autism Spectrum Disorder (E)

A team of Indian researchers has developed a compound named ‘6BIO’ which may provide a better method for treating Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Dr. Vijaya Verma (female) of the Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research, DST’s autonomous research institute, and other colleagues demonstrated the potential of 6BIO in a pre-clinical mouse model called SynGAP1+/-. It is the first compound observed to be able to restore neuronal function, learning, and memory, and reduce epileptic seizures in SynGap1+/- mice. According to the researchers, this can overcome the lack of appropriate treatment for diseases such as ASD and Intellectual disability.
