Monsoons Shifting Northwest (E)
A recent study by DST-supported Centre of Excellence in Climate studies at IIT Bombay, has revealed how harmful excessive irrigation can be. According to the study, excessive irrigation in North India is not only leading to an increase in weather extremes across Central India but also shifting the September Monsoon to the Northwest. This poses a big threat to agriculture as such circumstances expose the crops to the risks of failure.
