IISER Bhopal Researchers Decode Turmeric Plant’s Genome (E)

For the first time in the world, researchers from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Bhopal, have sequenced the whole genome of the turmeric plant. The researchers have identified many genes related to Turmeric’s secondary metabolism and its defence responses against stress conditions such as cold, heat, drought and salinity. The research provides evolutionary insights into the medicinal properties of Turmeric and also elucidates its position in the evolutionary pathway. Here is a report on this important development.
