Holding Fort - Building Blocks of Bharat Series (E)

"In this episode, we explore different construction techniques and designs of forts across India. Our travels take us to Murud Janjira – an island fort off the village of Murud in Maharashtra. This is famous for being the only fort along India's Western coast that remained undefeated despite Dutch, Maratha and British attacks. We wander through the Purana Qila in Delhi and finally head to Chittorgarh – the first hill fort of Rajasthan, believed to be erected during the 7th century CE. Our quest is to understand the craft, architecture and engineering of these forts – the choice of the site and what goes into making it an impregnable bastion, able to withstand a siege by enemies for months on end.
