COVID-19: Vaccines for Children and Booster Doses - (E)

India’s response to the 3rd Covid-19 wave has been timely and effective due to a better understanding of the nature of the SARS-CoV-2 virus - as a result of India’s scientific response teams and organizations like the Indian Council of Medical Research, the Department of Biotechnology, AIIMS - just to name a few. These organizations have been minutely studying the Covid-19 virus and its mutations and advising the government on steps to take to curtail its spread. This, coupled with record vaccinations - some 90 % of India’s adult population has now received one Covid 19 vaccine and 65 % of both doses - a result of overwhelming medical and public support and has resulted in reducing and even countering the severity of Covid-19. But as a country, we cannot let our guard down so in this episode of Science for a Self Reliant India we look at some crucial developments - the latest initiative of the Government to vaccinate children after extensive trials and approval by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation of the vaccine to ensure that our younger generation is safe and protected so they can attend schools and visit outdoor spaces more confidently. And also, the mission to provide booster doses to front line workers and those above the age of 60. This and much more on Science for a Self Reliant India only on India Science.
