Community Radio in India (E)

Community radio is a medium of communication utilized by a group of people who live within close geographical proximity, share a socio-cultural heritage and speak one language or dialect. Interestingly the community Radio was not legal in India till 2002. But the community radio was gaining popularity and as a tool of development communication. In our country, there has been a campaign by the advocate, academicians and the member of the community across the county to get it legalised. In 2006, the new policy on community radio allows agricultural universities, educational institutions and civil society institutions such as NGO to set-up the community radio stations. Since then no looking back, more and more community stations are being set up throughout the country.
