Climate Change And Infectious Diseases (E)

According to a recent study, Indian children are at an increased risk of infectious diseases due to climate change. A study was undertaken for the first time over the central Indo-Gangetic Plain region by the DST-Mahamana Center of Excellence in Climate Change Research, Banaras Hindu University. The researchers explored the association between climate parameters and infectious diseases over a three year period on 461 children under 16-years-of-age in Varanasi city. They found that 9 to 18 per cent of cases of infectious diseases in children were linked to climate-related factors.
