15 May 2021 - Promo: Science for a Self Reliant India - BRO Modernising Mountain Roads (E)
In this episode of Science for a Self-Reliant India our journey through the picturesque north eastern state of India, Arunachal Pradesh continues on the crucial and strategic Balipara-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) highway. The Border Roads Organization is leveraging science, technology and engineering to improve and widen the BCT on what are seemingly impossible new alignments. We look at how the BRO is using environmentally friendly techniques such as slope stabilization on a massive scale, how trained mountaineers are climbing to secure fragmented rock cliffs by putting debris barriers at great personal risk, how news material like Interlocking Cement Bricks are being used on snow battered high altitude areas. The BRO works closely with leading IIT’s and Indian Institutions like the Geological Survey of India and by applying scientific research and its application on the ground it creating new prototypes of how mountain roads need to be built and secured. These initiatives go a long in realizing India’s mission of an Atmanirbhar Bharat of not only creating strategic infrastructure but providing jobs and propelling India towards further economic empowerment.
