Mathematical Model to Predict The Efficacy of Covid-19 Vaccines (E)

Researchers from the Bengaluru-based Indian Institute of Science have collaborated to develop a mathematical model to predict the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines. The model, developed by the Queensland Brain Institute, Australia, in collaboration with Indian researchers, can predict how antibodies generated by COVID-19 vaccines will provide protection against symptomatic infection. The results of this research have recently been published in the journal Nature Computational Science. The study analysed over 80 different neutralizing antibodies that were generated after vaccination against the surface spike protein of SARS-CoV-2. Based on this study, the research team developed a mathematical model that was able to predict the efficacy level of the vaccine. Predicting the effectiveness of vaccines has been a difficult task as it involves complex and interconnected processes. The new mathematical model will now make it easier to understand this complex process.
