Celebrating Marie Curie's Birth Anniversary, Her Struggles, Works & Achievements (E)

First woman Nobel laureate in science, first scientist to win two Nobel prizes, and only woman till date to win two Nobel prizes in two different disciplines of science -physics and chemistry; Marie Salomea Skłodowska–Curie, an inspiration, not just for scientists, but for each of us; a life of diligence, dignity, amidst distressing personal loss, glaring public scrutiny and indignation from some of the scientific colleagues. However, she was also much admired and deeply respected from the likes of Einstein, for her humility and life devoted in service of science and humanity. From fundamental discovery of Radioactivity, to driving vehicle with mobile X ray unit, for treating wounded soldiers during the world war; Marie Curie is remembered as an unassuming ideal of scientific integrity, innovation and curiosity. She led one of the world's first studies for the treatment of tumors and cancer using radioactive isotopes; and died due to long time exposure to radiation affecting her bone marrow. Even in death, she became the first woman to be entombed on her own merits in the Paris Pantheon, a mausoleum for the remains of distinguished French citizens. However, being a Woman, Curie still is not a member of the French National Academy of Sciences. And It wasn’t until 1962, when Marguerite Perey, a student of Marie Curie, became the first woman to be elected to French Academy.
