IISc researchers develop a glove-like wearable device for assisting physiotherapists (E)

Physiotherapy is one of the few treatments available for the rehabilitation of stroke victims and patients who have suffered physical injuries. Though cost-effective, it is a time-consuming treatment. To overcome this hurdle and make the recovery process faster, researchers at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, have developed a glove-like wearable device. The device uses the fundamental properties of light to sense the movements of a patient's limb or fingers. Most importantly, the device can be controlled remotely, opening doors to the possibility of tele-consultation from a physiotherapist.
